Puppy Checklist: Brushes & Grooming Supplies

Regardless of the breed of dog you choose, you will need to do some basic maintenance.  Long or short-haired, you are going to need some sort of brush.  All dogs have nails, and proper nail care is *very* important.  See below for more information.

Brushes & Combs

Different coat types require different tools to deal with them.  Whether you have a dog with a long drop coat (such as a shih tzu or a yorkie) or a dog with a short, dense coat (such as a lab or a beagle) or anything in between, we can help you find the right brushes to keep your dog's coat in shape.  Remember, unless you have a hairless dog, your dog's coat WILL require maintenance and it's VERY important to start while they are young.

Nail Clippers

Start teaching your puppy to accept having their nails clipped at a young age, and you will have a much easier time as it matures.  We have nail clippers for all size dogs, and we can show you exactly where you need to be trimming so you don't hit the quick.  Nails *are* sharper after clipping, so you will need to let your puppy run on a rough surface after clipping, or you can purchase a doggy-sized filing board.
