Successful housetraining depends on several things.

A good crate and/or ex-pen are not only highly recommended, but in most cases absolutely necessary to successfully housetrain your puppy. Containing your puppy, and not allowing him or her the freedom to make mistakes all over your house is key. With a set schedule, a good plan of action, plenty of supervision and proper use of a crate and ex-pen, housetraining can go from something incredibly time consuming and painful, to the easiest thing you will ever teach your pup.
