my dog ignores me.
We get so many calls about people who own dogs that are out of control. Mostly it is about running away from the owner whether outside and heading down the street or in the house after chewing something up or some other no-no. The following is really a living with your dog lifestyle more than training the dog. Many problems, no most problems, have to do with your relationship with the dog. First I'll list human behavior caused problems.
- You purchase a retractable leash when you first get your pet as a puppy or rescue.
- You leave food down for the dog to nibble at all the time so he or she will not be hungry.
- You purchase toys, including soft squeaky ones that he can tear up and leave him to his own devices. (i.e. tear up toys)
- You purchase treats and chews and give them to your beloved Alphy at random or even worse when he demands them or even worse yet when he is being incorrigable. You hope it will settle him down.
- You pet and love and stroke and massage whenever he or she demands it or jumps in your lap.
- You open the door and he or she bolts out into the yard amd will not come back in until he has caught the squirrel or dug up the mole. Oh yes, he has got to socialize with the friendly neihbor dog and try to scare that nasty dispiccable neihbor dog on the other side of the yard.
- You open the door and Precious or Baby will not go out and runs to other end of the house and soils on your rug or lifts his leg on your slippers.
- You failed to purchase an exercise pen or playpen for your new puppy. This one amazes me. New mom will buy a playpen for a human baby that cannot even roll over and yet will not purchase one for new puppy that can run, chew, poop, pee, destroy, run out the door and get killed etc. Amazing!!
- You ignored your puppy when he sat nicely and looked at you but responded immediately when he jumped up on you or barked at you. NEXT BLOG. THE PROPER WAY TO RAISE A PUPPY OR THE SOLUTIONS TO YOUR WAYWARD ADOLESCENT OR OLDER DOG.
