Iams versus Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul

I will compare Iams Mini Chunks adult (green bag) to Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul (adult). Both are "chicken" based formulas. First you need to know the rule about "chicken" that our Government and Corporate officials made and did not tell you or me about. "Chicken" is the flesh of chicken in its "wet" state similar to the way you would buy it for yourself. For pet food purposes it is weighed before it is processed. This is important to know because chicken meat is 75% to 80% moisture. If you are feeding a dry food there is obviously no "wet"chicken breast or thighs in your dry food. The "chicken" has been changed to a chicken meal type product in the final analysis and by weight is proportionately less in your pets food. "Chicken" can be listed as the first ingredient in the ingredients list by weight but in actuality the "dried chicken protein" would be way down the list of ingredients. Make sure the "chicken" is backed up with chicken meal, hopefully as the second ingredient. (This rule applies to all meat protein - beef, lamb, venison, turkey, duck, salmon Etc.)
Iams adult big green bag $30.99 Petco.
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Souls Adult $28.98 Happy Tails
Iams ingredients list: Chicken, corn meal, ground whole grain sorghum, chicken-by-product meal,( feet, guts, head, backbone etc) chicken fat.
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul ingredients list: Chicken, turkey, chicken meal, ocean fish meal, cracked pearl barley, whole grain brown rice, oatmeal, millet, white rice, chicken fat.
To me Iams looks more like cattle or horse feed that has been tweaked to make it palatable for dogs so I guess the price they charge must be mostly advertising. Bill
