Wake up, everybody, it's almost christmas!
Submitted by Kris on Wed, 2008-11-12 22:40.
I'm sure you've noticed the dip in the temperature, the change of the seasons. That means not only is it time to bundle up, but Christmas and Winter are coming!
All the stores are stocked with christmas goodies and plenty of winter apparel. Hoodies, sweaters, jackets in all shapes and sizes...even ones big enough for Bonaparte! And we didn't forget the tiny tiny dogs. XXS fits even the teeniest babies.

Need fun holiday novelties? Try the"Kiss Me" mistletoe antlers or Santa hat. We have christmas themed toys and rhinestone collars, and even a few toys that talk and play music (Bonaparte's favorites!)
We've also gotten a huge assortment of sweaters and sweatshirts and jackets for boys and girls. Don't let your poor puppy freeze this winter, bring him or her to Happy Tails and pick out an adorable, affordable, winter wardrobe.

And that isn't all. We've also got GREAT gifts for four-leggeds and two-leggeds. Breed specific t-shirts for humans and a whole slew of different toys for the dogs. There are also tons of Moo! Odor Free bully sticks of all sizes to choose from, Bounster balls and the all new MADE IN THE USA Zuke's treats and chews.
Special thanks to Daycare regular and private student, Farley, for being such a good model and good sport. Those sit-stays are sure handy, aren't they? : )
Stop by to see us and check out our holiday selections, and if you need a fluff and trim for your dog, make your holiday appointments soon! The days before christmas and thanksgiving fill up fast, so don't miss out!

Fun At City Heights, Rally Times & Pup Apparel!
Submitted by Kris on Fri, 2008-11-07 17:17.

Bonaparte and I had the honor of visiting City Heights Elementary School during Drug Free week. Bonaparte loves visiting kids, and kids love his squishy teddy bear appearance. I'm pretty sure he was a hit! Lots of people, when contemplating things they can do with their dogs, think immediately of therapy-type work. It's a wonderful and fulfilling way to spend time with your dog, as well as bring knowledge and joy to others.
Some dogs, and some owners for that matter, aren't interested in therapy work. That doesn't mean you're out of luck for fun things to do with your dog! Rally Obedience, or Rally-O, is a new AKC sport that focuses on the relationship between dog and owner. It tests their ability to communicate with one another, as well as the dog's understanding of basic commands. Only purebred, registered dogs are eligible to compete in AKC sponsored rally events, but the Association of Pet Dog Trainers offers rally competitions that are available to ALL dogs, including beloved mixed-breeds. Bonaparte and I decided to see what the rally craze is all about, and I'm proud to say that he did WONDERFUL! We went to Tulsa for our first match and, though my nearly debilitating nerves, managed to bring home 3rd place with 97 points out of 100.
We will soon be offering rally-specific classes for those interested. And even if you don't have aspirations of competing one day, it's a great way to polish up your obedience commands!

More new friends!
Submitted by Kris on Thu, 2008-10-16 15:39.A big welcome to our new daycare buddies - Olivia, Bailey, Cutie Pie & Izzy! As we take pictures of the new kids, we will be adding them to our gallery. Pictures of the Big Dogs are up from yesterday in our photo gallery.

The Truth About Cheap Food
Submitted by Kris on Fri, 2008-10-10 15:00.With the economy as crazy as it has been behaving, getting the best value for your dollar is on everyone's mind. What may surprise you is that "best value" is not what you may think it is. So-called "value" foods not only contain inferior ingredients, but they are actually more expensive than better brands.

Surprising? It shouldn't be. With grocery store brands, you are often paying for the advertising and TV commercials, rather for anything that goes into the food. Wouldn't you rather pay for high quality, healthy food...especially if it costs less? Definitely sounds like a deal to me.

Grooming at Zero, and Playtime Mania!
Submitted by Kris on Wed, 2008-10-01 20:29.Just a reminder that we *are* grooming at Zero Street from Monday - Friday. Karen, who groomed at Wee Pals for many years, is back with us and will be handling the grooming at Zero. She has been working the past few years at Little Buddies Grooming and is a great groomer. So stop by and say "Hey" to Karen, and make a grooming appointment! If you absolutely need a Saturday appointment, both our Rogers Ave and Van Buren stores are open.
In other news, another pup has joined the Happy Tails Daycare and we are glad to have him. Farley is a 4 month old harlequin great dane pup and he's loads of fun. He's roughly the same size as Kismet, so they have buddied up. I don't think Kismet (and the rest) realize how big Farley is going to be one day! Pictures are up in the gallery of Farley and the rest of the big dogs from today, this first day of October.
Also, watch this space for information about an upcoming halloween party and cookout at Happy Tails Zero. More info to come soon!
